Sanction Gin
Over the last few weeks I’ve been working with local client Gin Without Borders, in redesigning the labels for their award-winning range of craft Gins.
Gin Without Borders decided to update the look and feel of their product-range, from a ceramic bottle to a recyclable glass one and using a paper product label. I was tasked with redesigning the labels whilst maintaining the essence of the current brand.
A key stipulation of the design brief was to incorporate more of a background story into each label design and display the prestigious International wine and spirit awards they have won.
Sanction Gin started in Tehran in February 2016, the month after the UK travel sanctions were lifted, when the owner was visiting the country on the hunt for key ingredients. Unbeknown to many, the best botanicals for Gin-making in the world can be found in some of the most ‘interesting’ countries to visit, such as Almonds from Iran, Angelica Root from Russia and Cassia Bark from Hong Kong.
Another key ingredient is Cardamom from India. The background pattern on all three labels contains detail from a topographic map of the Cardamom Hills, a mountain range in southern India. On the morning of the EU Referendum, the 23rd June 2016, whilst sat in Madrid airport about to board a flight home, the owner thought enough was enough, and registered a company called Gin Without Borders.
As well as the new labels for their ultra-premium London Dry Gin, Pomegranate & Jasmine and Navy Strength Gin, Edmundson Design created exhibition banners, posters, fliers, stationery and glasses and are currently working on a botanical rum, following the same design.
